Sons In Retirement (SIR) is a nonprofit, public-benefit organization consisting of retired and semi-retired men who meet once a month for a luncheon meeting. The main purpose of SIR is to provide opportunities to make new friends and promote independence and dignity in retirement. The only requirements for becoming a Sir are that that one should have an acceptable moral character, be sponsored by an active member, and attend regular monthly meetings unless prevented by illness or absence from the area. There are no initiation rituals, fees or membership dues. SIR supports no outside cause or interest and prohibits discussions of politics and religion or the selling of anything to any member. The Big Nugget Branch, a branch of our parent organization, was founded on December 17,1986. Our members are from varied backgrounds, professional and non-professional, with a goal of enjoying our retirement by staying active and enjoying the companionship and friendship of other retirees. You are welcome regardless of age, race, color or religion.
The Branch’s leadership consists of six offices including:
Big Sir - Acts as president of the Branch
Little Sir - Acts as vice president and is responsible for arranging programs for our luncheons
Treasurer - Responsible for the Branch’s finances
Secretary - Responsible for taking Branch Executive Committee (BEC) meeting minutes, handling official Branch correspondence, and keeping Branch records
Membership - Responsible for keeping the Branch roster, new member applications and inductions, and membership reporting
Attendance - Responsible for tracking and reporting Branch luncheon attendance counts and ordering lunches
We also have Chairmen for various functions such as Sunshine, Bowling, Golf, Newsletter, and Website. Several of our past officers serve as Board Members on our Branch Executive Committee.
Our Branch Executive Committee is responsible for the management of the Branch and all of its activities. The BEC is comprised of the six officers, activity chairmen, and board members. The BEC meets on the second Wednesday of every month except for August and December. The meeting is at 10:00 am at the Eagles Aerie on the Skyway in Paradise just before the monthly luncheon. All members of the Branch or visitors are invited to attend the BEC meetings.
Our Regular Luncheon meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Eagles Aerie except for August and December. We combine with Branch 52 in August for our annual Picnic and in December for our Christmas Dinner. Our luncheon begins with a Happy Hour from 11:00 to 11:45 before the luncheon begins so members can greet old and new friends. The Eagles bar is open. The luncheon meeting then begins at 11:45. All members are expected to attend the luncheon unless they are away from the area or there is an illness. If a member can not attend a luncheon he must notify the Attendance Chairman prior to 10:00am on the Monday before the luncheon so that the cook does not prepare a meal for him that will be billed to the Branch.
